A Woman First received negative reviews from critics.
Description[]
From back of book:
From the wind-swept farms of Maryland to the stately halls of The White House, A Woman First: First Woman is the story of Selina Meyer's extraordinary ascent. As the first female president of the United States of America, Meyer has imprinted her indelible mark on the fabric of U.S. history. A zealous champion of civil liberties, a bulwark against foreign enemies, and a humanitarian force for the global citizen in need, Meyer proudly served this country with determination and grace.
But what makes such a resolute, honest leader? What kind of past forges such a visionary? In A Woman First: First Woman, Meyer presents a refreshing, candid tour of her own personal history and her life in The White House. These privileged memories grant access into the mind of one of America's greatest trailblazers.
Daughter. Mother. Wife. Divorcee. Senator. Vice President. Commander-in-Chief. At the very core of this journey, we find a woman. First woman.
Reception[]
Critical reception to the book has been negative. Publisher Weekly said "Scattered and disjointed, much like the Meyer presidency." The New York Times said "We've been stunned by the revelations and achievements of the Meyer presidency over the last few days. Why aren't they in the book?" The New York post called it "Remainder City".
Trivia[]
-The cover for A Woman First is clearly inspired by Laura Bush’s Spoken From the Heart.

To coincide with the premiere of the seventh season of Veep, Penguin Random House published A Woman First: First Woman on March 19, 2019. An audiobook read by Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tony Hale was released on April 23, 2019.
There are several differences between the real-life publication of the book and the in-universe version. The in-universe A Woman First appears to be at least twice as long and features a picture of Selina on her pony Chicklet. The real-life publication is visibly shorter and has sarcastic quotations on the back sleeve from Laura Montez, Andrew Doyle, Stuart Hughes, Minna Häkkinen, and Leon West, as well as a legal notice from Catherine Meyer.
