The New Hampshire special congressional election of 2016 was held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. Although Harry Sherman had won the Congressional Election on November 8, Sherman later died due to Salmonella on Thanksgiving. A runoff Election was set to December 21, where Judy Sherman, widow of Harry, went against President Selina Meyer staff member Jonah Ryan. Despite several campaign blunders, Ryan ultimately won the Election.

Campaign Edit

Harry Sherman won the Election held on November 8, 2016, and was set to become Congressman, but died due to an outbreak of Salmonella poisoning on November 24. A runoff Election was announced to be on December 21, and Jeff Kane convinced his nephew Jonah Ryan to run against Harry Sherman's widow Judy Sherman.

Ryan was negatively perceived at first in New Hampshire, with many considering him an insider, due to his experience working with President Meyer. However, due to his frustration with the President, he started blasting her at every campaign stop, despite being in the same party. This drew large support from those frustrated with the President.

On December 19, Ryan shot himself in the foot on a hunting trip. Sherman criticized him, angering the NRA, who launched a series of attack ads against Sherman. The support from the NRA helped Ryan, as he won the election held on December 21.
