The United States presidential election of 2004, the 55th quadrennial presidential election, was held on Tuesday, November 2, 2004. An unknown Republican candidate successfully won his first term as President in a landslide victory against Democratic candidate Blake Stewart.  This Republican candidate would go on to win re-election in the 2008 election.

Results

In Some New Beginnings, we are introduced to Blake Stewart, someone who won the Democratic Party nomination "a decade" earlier and lost disastrously, 49 out of 50 states to be exact. This would have to mean that the other candidate won between 483 and 535 electoral votes. Stewart says he blames himself for his loss, not his campaign or staff. After meeting Stewart, Selina Meyer feels inspired to run for the Democratic nomination in the 2016 election.

Aftermath

The Republican candidate who won this Election would go on to win a second term in the 2008 election, as because Stuart Hughes wasn't seeking an incumbent Democratic president in 2012, a Republican candidate won in 2008. Also, as Ronald Reagan was the most recent President mentioned in Veep, it would man that, in order for it to make sense that Hughes was the 44th President (as stated), every President since Reagan would have to have served two terms.
